Matthew M. Rundio is a partner at Cavanagh Law Group in Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Rundio focuses his practice in plaintiff personal injury law prosecuting personal injury and wrongful death claims. He represents victims of medical, automobile, trucking, railroad, construction and nursing home negligence. Mr. Rundio was named one of the "40 Illinois Attorneys Under 40 To Watch" in 2007 by the Law Bulletin Publishing Company and has been recognized as an "Illinois Rising Star" from 2008 through 2011 by Illinois Super Lawyers, a division of Thomson Reuters.
Mr. Rundio served as the second chair trial attorney in cases that resulted in a $55 million verdict in a railroad grade crossing collision case, a $13.72 million verdict for the Estate of a motorist killed in a car crash, and a $2 million verdict for the Estate of a motorist killed in a high speed police chase. He has also tried many personal injury cases to verdict and has settled numerous personal injury and wrongful death cases, including the following recent matters:
- $4.5 million settlement in a product liability and van crash case;
- $4.1 million settlement in a van/car crash case;
- $3 million settlement in a premises liability case;
- $1.5 million settlement in a railroad grade crossing collision case;
- $1.02 million settlement in a car/pedestrian crash case;
- $1 million settlement in a one-car crash case;
- $1 million settlement in a car/truck crash case;
- $1 million settlement in a van/truck crash case;
- $900,000 settlement in a nursing home negligence case;
- $750,000 settlement in an Animal Control Act case;
Prior to joining Cavanagh Law Group, Mr. Rundio was as an associate attorney at a leading insurance defense firm in Chicago, Illinois. There, he defended claims for compensatory and punitive damages based on liability claims for construction injuries, exposure to toxic fumes, nursing home negligence, and auto and trucking collisions. Mr. Rundio was a member of the trial team that defended a construction contractor in the collapse of a stadium retractable roof resulting in multiple deaths.
Mr. Rundio attended the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 1997. He then attended Loyola University of Chicago School of Law and earned a Juris Doctor degree in 2000.
Mr. Rundio is a member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, Chicago Bar Association, and Illinois State Bar Association. Mr. Rundio has also volunteered as a mentor in the Loyola University of Chicago Law School First Year Law Student Mentoring Program since 2007.
