Stacey Feeley Cavanagh, a partner at Cavanagh Law Group, specializes her personal injury practice in medical malpractice, product liability, negligence and wrongful death cases. Ms. Cavanagh has had over 20 years of experience litigating cases on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants. Since joining Cavanagh Law Group in 2009, Ms. Cavanagh has represented victims of injury and negligence and has obtained outstanding results for her clients. She has a vast understanding of the strategies of the other side of the courtroom through her work with a prominent insurance defense firm early in her legal career. As an insurance defense attorney, Ms. Cavanagh defended insurance companies in catastrophic injury and death cases, and later, defended corporations in cases involving product liability litigation, mass tort litigation, and commercial litigation. She handled nearly every type of injury case, including those involving automobile liability, medical malpractice, product liability, premises liability, construction liability, and bus, truck, and train liability.
Ms. Cavanagh’s extensive work with personal injury cases on both sides of the courtroom has contributed to her role as an advocate for her clients, as she has obtained numerous multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements as a personal injury attorney. In one of her most notable cases, Ms. Cavanagh was part of a trial team that represented the devastated family of John Bruce, a baggage handler, who suffered fatal injuries as the result of a 12-foot fall from a baggage conveyor at Al-Mubarak Air Force Base in Kuwait. The impact on the tarmac caused him serious and irreversible brain damage, ultimately leading to his removal from life support less than a week after the catastrophic fall. Ms. Cavanagh, along with Benjeman Nichols and Timothy Cavanagh, filed a lawsuit against CAV International, Inc., whose employee’s actions led to Mr. Bruce’s fall. Ms. Cavanagh’s extensive research and substantial preparation led to a two-week trial, after which the Bruce family received a $6.65 million verdict. This high-profile case helped bring justice and closure to a tense, tragic story while also providing for Mr. Bruce’s loved ones.
Ms. Cavanagh began her education at Boston College. She earned her Juris Doctor degree at IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law, where she received the American Jurisprudence Awards for both Conflicts of Law and Advanced Legal Research, setting her apart from her peers at an early age.
Ms. Cavanagh has close ties with the legal community not only in Chicago but throughout the state of Illinois. Her commitment to staying involved with her peers is represented by her affiliations with many legal groups. She is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association. Ms. Cavanagh is also an active member in the Women’s Bar Association.
In addition to her significant contributions to the legal society, Ms. Cavanagh also serves on the Guild Board of the Boys & Girls Club of Chicago.
