CHICAGO — Cavanagh Sorich Law Group partners Tim Cavanagh and Michael Sorich have been named to the 2019 Irish Legal 100.
The annual list recognizes accomplished attorneys, legal scholars and members of the judiciary across the U.S. who have Irish roots. Among the 2019 honorees are U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts and William Treanor, dean and executive vice president of Georgetown University Law Center.
It’s the 10th consecutive year Cavanagh has been named to the list and the first for Sorich.
“We are honored that two Cavanagh Sorich Law Group attorneys were chosen for the Irish Legal 100,” Cavanagh said. “Mike and I are extremely proud of our Irish heritage.”
Cavanagh and Sorich are both members of the Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago. Cavanagh is on its board of directors.
Since founding Cavanagh Sorich Law Group in 1997, Cavanagh has obtained more than 60 verdicts and settlements in excess of $1 million. In 2002, his $55 million verdict in a railroad crossing case was recognized by the National Law Journal as one of the Top 100 in the nation.
Cavanagh has been listed in Best Lawyers in America© every year since 2015. He was twice named one of the Top 500 plaintiffs’ lawyers in the country by Lawdragon magazine. Cavanagh also has been named a Leading Lawyer by the Leading Lawyers Network every year since 2003; the list honors the top five percent of attorneys in Illinois.
In 2018, Cavanagh and Sorich obtained a landmark $20 million settlement from the City of Chicago in a “code of silence” case involving an off-duty Chicago police sergeant who killed two men while driving drunk in 2009.
Sorich previously worked as a prosecutor with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, where he served as the youngest ever supervisor in the Civil Division. Since joining Cavanagh Sorich Law Group, he has obtained more than $34 million in verdicts and settlements on behalf of his clients.
For the past two years, Sorich has been named a Leading Lawyer by the Leading Lawyers Network. Only the top five percent of attorneys in Illinois are chosen for the list.
The Irish Legal 100 was created by the Irish Voice newspaper in New York in 2008.
